I was born at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, and was raised for most of my childhood by a single mother until my stepdad came into our lives when I was 10. We didn't have much growing up, moving every couple of years from KCK to Bonner Springs before settling on the Missouri side when I was 12. That constant change taught me how to connect with people quickly, and being a latch-key kid taught me independence and self-reliance early on.
What we lacked in money, we made up for in family — aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents were always around, and I always felt loved. Summers were spent on a farm in Adrian, MO, gathering eggs, bottle-feeding calves, and swimming in the creek. I've lived around Belton/Raymore for 40 years and proud to say "I'm a lifer". I proudly served 3 years on the Belton Park Board from 2005-2008 and was asked to be on the 1st charter committee for the City of Belton in 2008.

Family and faith have shaped who I am. My great-grandmother Abbie, a union shop steward, and my stepdad taught me what unions mean to this country — a legacy that lives on through my husband Chris, who joined Local #2 Sheet Metal Workers, the same union my stepfather spent 35 years in; Chris will retire from A. Zahner this September after 32 years. Chris and I have been married 31 years and have 3 girls. Raised Episcopalian, I've carried my Grandma Helen's lesson to be kind to all into my life at St. Peter & All Saints, where I'm a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and have served on the Vestry, supporting our outreach to the homeless, our community garden, and families in need.
Priorities
If elected, my focus will be to make sure our votes are protected, public schools are properly funded (getting rid of school vouchers and $10,000 home-school grants), have appropriate MODOT funding to expand I-49, make sure income tax stays in place so that we don’t have more income inequality, make sure Right to Work doesn’t get ever put back on a ballot, protect women’s reproductive rights, marriage for all, and support legislation for the LGBTQIA+ community.
